"The Bertelsmann Transformation Index (BTI) is a global ranking that analyzes and evaluates development and transformation processes in 119 countries. The Bertelsmann Transformation Index provides the international public and political actors with a comprehensive view of the status of democracy and a market economy as well as the quality of political management in each of these countries."

Another acronym I learned form the radio today! The BTI rates countries in terms of their development of a market economy and their move towards a democratic government. The full list is doenloadable form this site, but Mauritius, China, Botswana,Slovenia and Taiwan are the top five in the Management Index and Slovenia,Estonia,Czech Republic,Taiwan and Hungary are the top five in the Status Index.
