High-speed pursuits.

SA police abort high-speed pursuits. :

"The same driver was involved in three separate high-speed chases through Adelaide's northern suburbs overnight.

Each pursuit was abandoned when the driver reached dangerous speeds."

There is no sense in the police putting themselves in danger and adding more cars at high speed would probably increase the danger to others. Given a helicopter was brought in as well, then it was just bad luck this 20 something year old was not caught. In his twenties. I'd like to see a costing of that exercise and whatever else it costs in terms of human and gadget resources to apprehend one 20 something offender. That might put a perspective on some of this. Then what is the motivation ? The thrill of the speed? The thrill of being chased? What does he get out of it? Can't he try windsurfing or hang gliding ? Climbing Mount Everest?I can see us having to mount cameras everywhere trying to track these folk down because, in the end, you cannot reward them for breaking the rules. No point in us having all the speed limits and the speed kills ads if it is just going to be ignored. The injuries and deaths associated with speed speak for themselves but the police have to be able to police it without having to reward and engage in the same uproarious behaviour. They must be getting mighty frustrated. Maybe we need a speed watch programme like we have school watch and neighbourhood watch!!
