ALP urges Libs to align over detention

ALP urges Libs to align over detention:

"Labor expects dissident government MPs to back ALP amendments to Liberal MP Petro Georgiou's private member's bills on mandatory detention, Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said."

Baxter Detention Centre has not only become a running wound , it has become intolerable. People have more and more come to the realisation that it is not what we want, it is not how we want to treat people and that if it supposed to be a security measure then it is not only failing woefully to identify detainees, it is causing a great deal of inhumane and gratuitous maltreatment of individuals. It is time to change. It is time to discuss the whole issue and it is time to make some well considered alterations to the system of detaining people. For a start, we are going to have to do a much better job of knowing exactly who they are! I'm really pleased people are now upset about it enough to want to fix it. There's hope yet.
