The Lower Lakes

"Given that Lake Alexandrina has had at least a partial estuarine history in the past, it would make sense to use saline water from the ocean which would return it to at least part of its natural ecological condition and use that scarce and expensive water in other places that have had an entirely fresh history leading up to European history," he said.
It has been estuarine in the past we need to return it to that. It will survive that way.Short term solutions have not worked and will not work in our current climate. As it stands it is a shocking shame. Weirs, barrages, buying water will not revitalise the area. It is too costly and the area is in need of immediate help. Not just that...it needs to develop. It should never have been allowed to come to this. We have rising sea levels. Let us use the sea and at least turn the area into a place where people can live and relax and nature will adapt.  At the moment it is just desperation and stress all round and the fresh water supplies probably need to go elsewhere. Desperate times do not call for desperate measures at all. they call for flexibility and logical solutions given the circumstances. We have no water.
