Anna Bligh

"I think there are many people who would never have thought that Queensland would be the state that delivered our first elected woman premier and I'm thrilled and proud of them that they proved everyone wrong," she said on ABC radio on Sunday.

I am glad Anna Bligh got back in because she needs to be able to show us whether she can do the job or not. To be voted in gives her a chance to set her own agenda and be able to give the job her best shot. It is astounding our country cannot keep women at the top in politics. They have been shot down and don't survive, or they battle on and find themselves pulling out. Julia Gillard is our best chance at the moment and now we can see if Anna Bligh can skill herself up and get on with the job just like any man We set women up as targets and I don't think a woman should have a job just because she is a woman. A man shouldn't either. There is something about the political arena in this country which is toxic to women and we need to fix it. Women need to have  a long, hard look at themselves and see why they cannot survive and then we need to look at the hostile environment which every woman politician has to face. I do not think we are credible as a nation unless we can get women to keep the top jobs and be as credible as men. We seem to be more tolerant of men's foibles. Needs a good analytical look and people need to get behind Anna Bligh and ensure she can learn as much now as she did on her return journey to re-election.
