Teens need sleep

Teens need more dreamtime : "A new Flinders University study has found that adolescents who get less than eight hours of sleep do not perform as well at memory tasks such as dictation and multi-step mathematics."

Might explain why kids are moving in droves to subjects which are completed with relative ease and not so much concentration. In a competitive global market that does not bode well for us. We need the high end thinkers and performers , not masses of couldn't be bothered students who'd rather be playing, sleeping, lolling and can't manage to get to school. Teenagers may need their perfect 9 and a quarter hours to function adequately but, as a nation, we need to wake up. If this trail and research is helping us resolve some of these issues then maybe we'll get a bit more can do rather than all the excuses in the world for not actually taking on things which require a long time to master. Tired people constantly follow the line of least resistance. If this is how young people are doing it then we won't have much get up and go. Mind you, it must be so hard when there are so many distractions and social networks. I guess it's the capacity to sort out real value from purported value in activities which will sort the sheep out from the goats.
