Whale shark numbers increasing, study finds : "'And maybe take that message home that we really need to understand more about our marine environment and our threatened species and hopefully really do something about it and make a difference and keep whale sharks, but keep the marine environment as healthy and as pristine as possible.'"
A lot of people know about the Great Barrier Reef and a lot of people know about sharks, but not so many know about Ningaloo and the fantastic conservation work that has been going on to develop an ecotourism park where the whale sharks can come back from being nearly extinct. The project has been going on for years and is a tribute to the painstaking work of environmentalists and then the careful enthusiasm of the tourists. More information about whale sharks is here at ECOCEAN.
