Music industry has Aussie pirates in the crosshairs : "'We would hope that the ISPs and the record companies could come up with an alternative solution,' said MIPI general manager Sabiene Heindl."
Yes, a solution which fits modern technology and living. In lots of ways file sharing is encouraged. In lots of ways breaking down the barriers and making the connections across the planet is what we are about in 2007. You have Net friends and they are like other friends - you want to show them things and share things with them. The Net can be as much a home as your own home is, it's that you have virtual callers. I had a photos of my Canadian friend's baby which was born in her country within minutes of the birth. It was just as moving as in real life. I know about piracy and its implications.I do not support piracy. What I do not like is that you are charged but there is no hard copy. There is no album artwork. It's all bare bones.. . .profit. I still buy my CDs and may well be the only person who does but I really value the artwork, the song words, the inside bits and pieces you get....and I have a copy of what I bought. We can block behaviour pretty easily these days. If you don't want people to file share..stop the sites and stop the IP addresses. We can be identified , it's not that hard. So I do not like this notion of entrapment. The same as kids gaily cut and paste text and images to make their work. They do it because they can and it seems normal. They wouldn't cut up your books and magazines and they wouldn't take your photos out of you albums. So we need a virtual barrier. In the real world we have locks, walls, safes, shops...we have barriers which guide our behaviour. We know not to drive on the footpath. We have signifiers which modify how we manage our lives. Put the barriers in and if people break those then they are the same as they are in the real world.
