Call for flexible hours for public servants

Call for flexible hours for public servants | The Australian: "Deputy Opposition Leader Fiona Simpson said today that flexible working hours would boost lifestyles and reduce peak-hour traffic and suit the state better than daylight saving."

I should have thought we could be a lot more creative and flexible with work conditions these days. I should have thought we could tailor a lot more jobs. Not all jobs require you to be onsite and now is the chance to get right out onto the information super highway and drive all our connectivity to the limit. Seriously! A lot of office and dead boring cubicle jobs could be done from home, the Botanic Gardens...the beach. People could liven up their work conditions by being in a good venue. We could save carbon, sick days, traffic problems..all sorts. It would be a trust thing but then there would have to be some stringent requirements and totally reliable workers. You'd have to earn the privilege of choice of venue and flexible hours. It could be part of your career path and development. I'd love to see it. it would save so much pollution and work stress I am certain. I'd also like to see us get video conferencing down to a fine art so we could get some real grunt into training and inservice development and instruction. It needs trials and infrastructure but we basically have what we need. We just need the plan!!
