The bare facts about 'naked DSL'

The bare facts about 'naked DSL' - Wireless & BroadBand - Connectivity: "'What we're seeing is there are an increasing number of people that have a mobile phone and use the mobile phone and don't need the fixed phone, but they of course do need access to broadband, and this [naked DSL], for example, allows them to buy a broadband connection without having the need to buy a telephone connection,' Mr Budde said."

My brother in law appears to do something like this and has shifted from his cable connection and his fixed phone. I haven't had a real chance to talk to him yet. he switched over as soon as he found a deal and I was surprised how fast he had it all up and running. His only comment so far seems to be that his broadband is not as fast as cable but the cost saving more than compensates because his connection is still pretty fast. I guess by Christmas he'll have a better idea. This will have to be spelled out to people because a lot won't understand the implications and the benefits to them. How does the connection work without a fixed line? My modem is plugged into the landline. For me it all seems a bit vague and perhaps even magical!
