'I can speak French': Downer

AdelaideNow... 'I can speak French': Downer: "'Remember I am the foreign minister so whether I can speak French or not seems to be reasonably immaterial."

Well, speak it!! Get French diplomats and speak to them. Speak French when you are in Vanuatu and New Caledonia. Don't have a go at someone. It's not weird. It should be normal so it should not be hidden. Just change from one language to another and let's hear these DFAT trained people meet people half way. Don't fuss about it. Just do it. It's not parading, not showing off...it's what other nations do quite naturally...and a lot of Australian citizens. I cannot believe you are fussing about it.
