French national jailed for Adelaide rape. : "Lusseau said he had consumed 26 alcoholic drinks plus cannabis, methamphetamine and ecstasy and could not remember twice raping the young woman as she slept next to her boyfriend at a Belair home on New Year's Day, 2006."
It is not okay that you can do things like this and not remember it. There is a real problem there. Two years in our jail when he is a French national probably calls for some advocacy and diplomacy. It's important he can be treated as well as brought to the understanding that he cannot do things like this. No one can. He needs to be able to express himself freely so that he can get the help he needs because he has traumatised himself and his family and this is where the whole thing of knowing languages is vital. You cannot express yourself properly in another language in another country unless you are fluent. Is he fluent in English? Where does this stand in terms of French law? I shouldn't think it would be acceptable there either. We have had Australians fall foul of laws in other countries and it does have serious consequences. I think it's important for all nations to ensure that their citizens are properly informed and helped. We cannot be responsible for the behaviour of some people but we can be responsible for how people understand things and the sort of treatment they receive so that they can get it right for themselves in future. He seems to have taken an awful lot of stuff. Is this usual or unusual? This is probably the sort of stuff that the legal eagles from different countries need to sit down and come up with an international plan for because it's happening to so many nationalities in so many countries these days.
