Adelaide Alive

The sign at the train station in town says "Welcome to party town." Well, Adelaide had a good feel and was pretty busy because of the school holidays, but it was more of an industrial party. North Terrace is under construction because of the new tram line, which is pretty exciting. Even further down there is construction and I am not sure why but the lovely bit of cream carpet to walk on was appreciated albeit odd. The city was quite vibrant because it was another warm day. We'd all been frozen this morning at the station but by lunch time it was lovely and warm.

It wasn't only the children who were happy to see the farm animals in the pen in the Mall. Everyone who walked by stopped to oooh and ahhh. They really were cute and incredibly well behaved. They were not at all bothered by people peering and trying to get a better look. I confess they seemed a bit food distracted but they were very relaxed considering they were in the middle of Rundle Mall with not even a blade of grass in sight. It was great, just great to see animals and the bronze pigs were not a bit put out!

A lot of working people go to The Botanic Gardens for lunch and it's great. It was pretty busy today with families, tourists, oldies and just a lovely mix of people. But there too was a lot of construction. The new cafe area looks really good and I am not sure what they are building now. They have been careful to make new buildings fit so I am not too worried! The kiosk by the lake was doing a brisk trade and the ducks wandering in and out made everyone laugh. They were very vocal today but the children loved it. Most of the Botanic Gardens is still green and very beautiful but there were a number of singed plants and plants browning off from the long, hot dry weather and water restrictions. You just can't beat the rain. Everyone was happy though. The warm weather has really made Adelaide relax and feel at ease!!
