A third of Australia's cancer deaths relate to poor lifestyle

A third of Australia's cancer deaths relate to poor lifestyle : "But it's a difficult message to communicate. Information aimed at encouraging people to eat a healthy diet cannot compete with the multimedia advertising employed by wealthy fast food and beverage companies."

It is World Cancer Day today and a read of this article sums it all up for Australians. Professor Ian Olver is remarkably clear, precise and to the point. He understands us well and has isolated our blocks and our strengths. We can achieve with anti smoking stances, but we cannot seem to achieve with proper eating...not really. We say we do and then we slide off into advertising. He has it so right. Lots of people say they haven't time to cook a proper meal, but if you plan it right, you not only have the fun of gasbagging through the preparation and yummy smells, you can cook it faster than reheating, take away...whatever the processed option is. It's ludicrous when we see ourselves as a civilised nation that we cannot feed ourselves properly and we think preparing food to look after our health is a massive burden. The cures we come up with are great, but we need to get our heads straight about looking after ourselves. Why are we so slack about sun protection? Like the global warming information, we have information about how to prevent skin care and we ignore it, or we are half hearted about it. Let's liven up, shall we?!
