AdelaideNow... Student finds clue to major heart problem: "University of Adelaide PhD student Dr Bobby John has shown why patients with rheumatic heart disease also suffered from irregular heart rhythms. The knowledge not only would help millions of people, including 2.4 million children, around the world who suffered from rheumatic heart disease but also others who experienced irregular heartbeats for different reasons."
Dr. Bobby John and Professor Sanders have made a major breakthrough here because they are understanding why a rheumatic heart wobbles and why it doesn't contract in a rhythmic way. Rheumatic heart disease affects millions of people and some of those are our own indigenous population. Making them feel well and allowing them to have good health is critical to enabling aborigines to participate more fully in our community. Rheumatic heart disease is debilitating and no one who feels constantly unwell can feel able to grab their life and run with it. This means so much to so many people and it's great to have inspired and caring researchers in our midst.
