Online rehabilitation to help rural heart patients: researchers. : "'Because it'll be as effective, we're hoping it'll be more cost efficient because we can't send a cardiac rehab speciality team to distance, and we also can't take people who are at distance, living in regional, rural and remote locations in to those centres.'"
Central Queensland University is pioneering an online rural health service for heart patients to lower costs. I am wondering if the cost saving is the motivator or the fact that rural people need expert help like the rest of us. We ought to be using our technological breakthroughs to introduce some equity into our country and into the world . There is no reason why we couldn't have online health services pariculary with video conferencing and VoIP available to us. It's not just about getting expert advice to outlying and disadvantaged areas, it's about tiering our medical services. Some people need advice, some need treatment, some need monitoring, some need diagnosis and some need immediate help. It's about creating a filering system so that the emergency cases are picked up efficiently and dealt with and low level intervention is not burning up the energy of highly trained staff. It'sll be good to hear how this project goes.
