The Advertiser: Life's good, but shorter for those in the Outback :
"OUTBACK South Australians enjoy a higher quality of life and suffer less from stress than city residents but are likely to die younger and be less educated."
I'd like to see a copy of this report. How mcuh shorter is their life? Infant mortality rates are higher too. On the up side they are more likely to use renewable energy. They are disadvantaged educationally because of the lack of schools. Is our online learning that bad? Are our connections so poor we cannot educate the children? How long have they been poorly educated for? Some country kids come down to the city to finish the last 2 years of school. Children used to be educated at home and they were very well educated. Are the children used on the farms because our farmers have been doing it hard lately? If they are less stressed, apart from farm equipment accidents , why wouldn't they live as long? Don't they have access to better food? Are they not getting more exercise? I somehow think we need to work in tandem between the city and country because we have the transport and communications to do so. Somehow we could get the benefits of the land to the stressed city dwellers and the up side of the city life to the country dwellers by being more creative in our approach. Many hands make light work and all of that. It would be good to read that report to see what the current economic and social issues are facing our outback people and then we might be able to think of ways of resolving someof the issues for country and city folk.
