Growing thirst of an arid Earth

Growing thirst of an arid Earth :

"But wait a moment before you log on to buy one of those jokey T-shirts advertised on the internet with slogans such as Save Water, Bathe With a Friend. Good message, but you could fill roughly 25 bathtubs with the water needed to grow the cotton needed to make the shirt."

Fred Pearce will be speaking at the International River Symposium in Brisbane on Sept 4th. This peace written by him is a well thought out piece and well worth the read. It is not the quick fix, quick answer, glib approach. There is plenty to consider. We are all stuck in a world where our rivers are running dry and we are all in the situation were we are sitting watching our trees, which have been there for years, just dying. Yes, the world changes and we change with it, but how much of this is actually our fault and our responsibility. What can we do about it. There were some interesting stats on how much water Australians use compared with European conterparts. We might have to have a good , long look at this and start changing our ways.
