Lawyer dismisses calls to try teenage strangling case in adult court. :

"There have been calls for the two girls to be named and tried as adults, but Mr Clarke has described the comments as ill informed and populist, saying there are already well established systems in place to deal with the case."

Absolutely no one is talking about this. No one has heard of it and no one wants to say anything. I saw one paper headline on the Sunday after the girls had handed themselves in saying they should be tried in an adult court and I believe there is a comment on this blog to that effect. It disturbs me that teenagers are in a no man's land. The hideous crimes against young children have incensed and outraged people and people are quite clear how they feel about those hideous crimes . We live in a nation which does not value its young and we know that now. We live in a nation which has no respect for its young and we are facing up to that. But teenagers? We are silent. The girls have not applied for bail and that is probably a wise decision on somebody's part. The lawyer who claims that any change to the way the case is heard would be "a return to the dark ages" is not going to be heard. What occurred came from the dark ages. A beautiful, talented girl is dead because her friends are supposed to have strangled her the morning after they went out dancing. This is just too unreal. Too surreal. The case will be heard in August and we really need to get to the bottom of this and we need to find a way of dealing with it because our girls go to school and our girls go to dances and our girls overnight with friends. What has happened to the little girls has horrified and changed us all. We are far more mindful and careful and the sad fact is that it has deeply disturbed some people so that now they are frightened to go out or to be themselves and it has fed the sick people in town. There are a lot more of them and people are avoiding certain parts of town because of it. I have had men firends harassed outside toilets and there are people happy to behave in a bizarre way. It is hurting us and we have to get our safety and security back again.
