Nanotechnology gets up close and personal

News in Science - Nanotechnology gets up close and personal - :

"Nanoparticles are generally those under 100 nanometres across and manufacturers are not required to label products containing them.

And there is some concern among scientists that such tiny particles may have toxic characteristics, yet there is limited scientific information available on their safety."

I've just read this article on nano particles in personal products and for starters it's news to me that we have products with nanoparticles. My reaction is I do not want nano particles in personal products. The article makes it obvious to me that we do not know what we are talking about. We don't really know what they do, we don't really know why we are using them, we do not really know what the upshot will be. There is reference to the fact that the fullerenes in anti ageing creams have been found in studies to be toxic to human liver cells. I think we need to put the brakes on and take a long hard look at what we are doing. If the experts cannot clarify it to me, then they do not know yet what they are talking about it. Let's be a little less reckless and get the facts first, shall we?
