Some too immature to drive

Some too immature to drive: :

"He sped down a narrow street lined with parked cars on both sides and slammed on the brakes when he saw another car coming towards him.

He lost control and crashed into a parked car, injuring backseat passenger Elizabeth Hargens, who fractured her spine and had her bowel lacerated.

Some of the girls in the car had called on him to slow down prior to the accident, with one yelling: 'Slow down, I don't want to die'."

The boy, now 19 has an intensive correction order, whatever that is and a four year licence suspension. His friends were trying to get through to him and still he wasn't listening to them. So what is it with the need for speed and the total oblivion to what can and does occur when you put yourself and others at risk? I could maybe get some understanding of his putting himself at risk. That pushing the boundaries stuff. I don't get his putting his friends at risk and his lack of capacity to respond to them. This is the bit which is broken and needs fixing. As adults we have to find a way of getting through to these kids because we brought them up. What have we done to get kids like this? Most of them are not like this but those who are extreme have just no idea about how to hold onto their own lives and how to preserve the lives of others. It just means nothing to them. Why?
