Women's marathon
Kerryn MacCann had an incredible finish to the women's marathon in the Commonwealth games where she managed to find that last bit of energy to sprint past the Kenyan, Hellen Cherono, to the finish line and glory. It may well be her last race and what a way to go . It was a very gruelling, action packed event which was spellbinging to the finsish. Kerryn's mighty finish has been played and replayed and replayed and we all know who she is and what a legendary status she has achieved. Time now needs to be spent on that worthy opponent, Hellen Cherono, who was there right until the end and gave her the race of her life time. Without Hellen, Kerryn's race would hold none of the legendary status it now has. She pulled energy out of her pocket to beat a woman who was just as capable , just as determined and just as strong as her and who, in the end, ran such a great race, Kerryn looked better. As for poor Kate Smythe who wobbled in fifth from dehydration , it breaks my heart to see runners do that to themselves and I am so relieved there is no permanent damage. I hope this will be thoroughly investigated . I hate it, but the truth is, if we didn't see it , it wouldn't impress upon training athletes how much they must look after themselves. I want to know how it happened because our top athletes are carefully trained and our women athletes are really on the ball. She was a brave and stunning lady. Onya, Kate.
