Dead still receiving welfare

The Australian: Dead still receiving welfare:

"ALMOST 1.5 million Centrelink clients are dead, a new report has found. More than 27,000 have never been born, 33 died but never saw the light of day, and one client was born two months after they died, according to the records.

An audit of Centrelink's client records has identified a series of anomalies and errors that increase the risk of incorrect payments."

"The Australian National Audit Office found the system functioned well overall." Who are they trying to convince? Room for improvement?? I should say so. Is it because the information is stored on computers or the people keying in the information and when people end up witht he same tax file number, that is serious...for all 7000 of them. At eh very least you build in a pop up which says, "someone already has this number." The whole system is rather wavy around the edges it would seem. So much for slick governance.
