It was on, says shark basher

It was on, says shark basher :

"Speaking from his hospital bed in Cairns yesterday, Mr Simpson said he had noticed shark activity in the water at St Crispins Reef but was not overly concerned. The sharks were only white-tipped reef sharks, with the biggest under about 1.5m long."

This is a man who is used to spear fishing and who takes his sons with him. Thank heavens it all turned out okay. When his son speared a coral trout about 5 sharks appeared. They are obviously getting very hungry and I wish we could do something about it. There must be something we can do. This story has a happy ending but the sharks are just not getting enough to eat. I know some people wouldn't miss them, but they do have their part to play in the ecological balance. I'd hate to be the generation which lost them from the planet. It's because they kill us we aren't really bothered about whether they are safe as a species or not. Says something about the state of our oceans , though. Mr. Simpson seems to be taking it all in his stride.
