City one of the safest

The Advertiser: City one of the safest :

"To pass the test, the city will have to show improvement in addressing key areas including crime, violence, road accidents, and health issues.

If successful, Adelaide will become the second Australian capital, behind Melbourne, to be recognised."

It would be great for Adelaide to work twards the criteria for being one of the safest cities in the world. It used to be. BUT...I am not at all interested in some warped standard of it being safe relative to others. Seriously. It should never be a question of safer than somewhere else. A city is whether safe or not, because we have some pretty warped definitions these days. Do it by absolutes, not relatives. I am not safe if I can't walk on my own streets or I have to think about waht time and where and whether it is a good idea. Maybe I am less likely to be damaged than anywhere else, but I didn't used to have to think like that. In other places I do not have to think like that. I didn't used to have to lock my car or my doors and I didn't used to have to lock myself into my car.I couldn't let children walk to school and it's worse now. Safe? We have a way to go. So let's get going.
