Shark attack

SA victim calls for shark cull:

"Jake Heron, 40, suffered leg and arm wounds in Sunday's attack near Port Lincoln, in which his surfboard was bitten in half by the shark."

There was another shark attack last Sunday at Port Lincoln, a superb coastal spot. Jake Heron would like to see the sharks culled because he believes there are more in Port Lincoln now than before. Some people believe it's the growing tuna industry down there. Port Lincoln, as well as being a great place to fish, dive , sail and loll is also the home of tuna fishery and has been for years. Dean Lukan , our Olympic weight lifter form many moons ago was a tuna fisherman of some import. At this stage there wil be do culling of the sharks. I guess the debate will carry on in the local community because Jake Heron was a near miss. Our local divers seem to be unperturbed at present and think they are more likely to die on the roads than in the water. A diver is a diver is a diver and they love their underwater world as I have said before. Even though we do not panic easily, I consider keeping this issue in front of our eyes and talking and thinking about it is the best way to go both for our self protection and the protection of the young ones growing up. We had actually stopped talking about it because we'd had no attacks for 20 years. Danger can be managed when you keep it in your head and map out strategies as you talk about it. Since we've been talking about sharks we've had Canadians talking about moose and bears and it reminds us all we live in a world with other creatures we need to pay heed to.
