Japanese Typhoon
Channelnewsasia.com:
"At its height, the typhoon packed winds of more than 90 kilometres (56 miles) an hour across a radius of nearly 300 kilometres, a greater area than Hurricane Katrina which ravaged New Orleans.
The typhoon flooded more than 8,000 houses, triggered 155 landslides and damaged 80 roads since the weekend, Japanese police said."
We actually haven't had much of the Japanese typhoon, but here has been some coverage. Japan has had to put up with so many earthquakes and some hideous storms and they just keep on keeping on and they just keep managing. Damage has been quite considerable but inpite of a dense population, Japan is managing to keep most people safe. Luckily this one managed to avoid some of the most populated areas. The japanese have to be admired for carrying on after months of this adversity and maybe they have developed some useful ideas for managing these sorts of onslaughts. The Indonesians , too, have never been left alone this year with ongoing tsunami clean up and rebuilding and then regular earthquakes, fires, crashes and heaven knows what. The Indonesian people seem to have taken it upon themselves just to keep on confronting the adversity and their capacity to carry on undaunted has to be admired. They must have very strong spirits and a great capacity for resilience. Seems to be take your pick on the diaster front and the only reassuring thought is that human beings just keep overcoming whatever is thrown at them. They are truly remarkable.
