Adelaide Housing

The Advertiser: House price crash still off the radar:

"ADELAIDE'S housing market has again confounded predictions of a crash – yet to record a fall in house prices since the real estate boom began almost five years ago."

If you live in Adelaide, it's not hard to explain. A lot of people like to move about every five years with the intention of "improving" their home. There's recently been a group of people who have abandoned houses for luxury appartments in the city and Glenelg. We didn't really have that option before. Then there's the group of people who have headed for the retirement villages and we have some really nice ones where people are really happy and not at all cut off from living and real people. The concept is working well here. We have those, like me, who move into a place and just stay there because it's their home and castle. I moved about 15 years ago and was glad I did, but moving is not something I relish. The new and different home is a great idea..but the thought of packing up and moving puts me right off. But the ones like me stabilise and characterise a neighbourhood. My street is typical of that. We have a number of professional or independent earners and we have been here for a while. We've actually made a conscious decision to live here and bypass what's expected of us. Then you get the newbies coming in and they stabilise and feel at home very quickly because we're all here.
