The Advertiser: Life in the big city- the $3m penthouse :
"A FAMOUS French designer has been appointed to help develop a luxury Adelaide apartment building.
Paris-based Andree Putman will design the interior of the $80 million Place on Brougham – to be built on the Hotel Adelaide site in North Adelaide."
The Hotel Adelaide has long been one of our icons but I guess it's seen better days. We always thought of it as swish and it was in a prime spot...and still is. It was one of the landmarks coming into Adelaide with its bilowing curtains and myriad of lights. This new, international style building will no doubt be the talk of the town. It'll be interesting to have an internationally designed building. Bit sad one of our own architects hasn't won the position, but then, one of our own didn't design the Sydney Opera House. Sometimes you have to look at other countries to get what you want and I'm sure Russell Crowe isn't complaining. It's a fine balance supporting and growing your own and then allowing people who become top in their field to participate in other nations and countries. There's a fine line between insular and diverse and , as I blogged earlier about the silver service training we are now offering in Adelaide, it can only strengthen us to allow a vast range of behaviours and activities. Some people will love the rich and fancy snobbery it supplies and others will just enjoy having fine things to look at.There are some very rich people in the world who stay in Paris, Rome, London, Sydney. Well, now they can stay in Adelaide and why not? What a lovely change from graffiti and hoons. Get in quick..the skyhomes go on sale 23rd May!!
