LESS than one cent in every dollar raised by an Adelaide charity has gone to its intended cause in its first two financial years, documents show.
This is getting plenty of publicity and so it should. It may not be as bad as it sounds because charities do have a lot of organisational costs, but the article is heartening in that we seem to be going to regulate charitiable organisations better. We are willing to give but we hate it when our money is NOT used for the reason we gave. Infrastructure can suck up costs so I think we do need to look at how charities operate and the best ways of maximising the donations going to the cause and not the running costs!
