Well, I cannot say we haven't tried. The messages and awareness raising have been out in the media loud and strong. So many people who are in the position of having an audience have made a very special effort to keep safe driving on everyone's minds. The radios are monitoring traffic and roads and the banter is about driving and how to stay alert and in good spirits. TV and papers have featured pieces about safe driving and there is a sense our community is doing all within its power to ensure a toll free Easter...to spare the police, the ambulance drivers, the fire brigade and the hospitals the gruesome and traumatic jobs they have when there are road accidents...because our statistics show they are not accidents. Most car crashes in SA are avoidable. I love us when we knit together as a state for a common cause.
