Nelson attacks Rudd over Rein's business

Nelson attacks Rudd over Rein's business : "'Why is it Mr Rudd is diligent enough to disclose the fact that he received a pen or a bottle of grange hermitage wine, but for some reason he's forgotten the fact that his wife still has a company that earned $160,000 over the last four years,' he said."

If I knew Therese Rein was winding that business up, well, it's hardly a secret. That came out at the time Mr. Rudd was thinking about running for Prime Minister. His wife is hugely successful and one of the richest Australian business women we have. She has been lauded for that and is acknowledged publicly as a great role model because of it. At the time there was a lot of debate about whether she should give up her business interests and play the lovely Prime Minister's wife because it seemed so arcane and old fashioned...downright mothballed in its approach. She is a hugely successful business woman in her own right and it was she who decided how that was going to be managed and then it was in the news what what happening and how it was going to go and her Australian interests were shut down by her . When you work at that level of business it is not easy to just close everything but it was done and it was reported in the news. She was earning money here because she had Australian businesses which were thriving. Of course she was earning money from them! So were other Australians. Bottom line? It is still pathetic she was put in the position of having to give up her career while her husband is our Prime Minister. We have achieved nothing for women at the top and it's disgraceful.
