Jail parents of truants, says Iemma

Jail parents of truants, says Iemma : "EDUCATION and welfare experts have ridiculed Morris Iemma's plan to send parents to jail if their children repeatedly miss school, saying the policy is 'heavy-handed' and will only hurt the most disadvantaged students."

People didn't dare miss school when I went to school. You just went...why? your parents would kill you if you didn't. So it's not about putting parents in gaol. Surely? If their children do not go to school they are not entitled to claiming them as full time students. If their children are not going to school it would be cheaper to go and get them and put them into school. It's expectation. We do not value education. In the end it will make those children unemployable and the children in other countries will benefit because we are on a global market. taking their parents away won't help. Getting our expectations changed will. Everyone needs to be at school. End of story. If they are not at school then we are going to have to get them there...and put the kids in homes if they won't go to school...homes where they cannot leave and education is provided on the spot. It'll all be disciplinary stuff and that starts at home when they are young. There have to be sanctions. Some children don't actually want an education, they want a perpetual kindergarten. Maybe one or two of those school would help just so the kids are off the street and amused all day.Have to be cheaper than the options...but for heavens sake, let's change our culture shall we and value lifelong learning....and thinking. We are going to have to think our way out of this.
