Food bills set to soar 50pc

Food bills set to soar 50pc: "On top of that, soaring fuel and energy prices will push up the cost of food production, transportation and distribution."

Good argument for local. Good argument for creating smaller concerns which can come up with the goods and a good argument for remaining flexible in our thinking and diet. In terms of global warming or icing ,whatever they want it to be called, then local produce costs less in terms of carbon and carrying. We used to have local shops which gave us local food and it was like that FOREVA. So then we got the supermarket monopolies as we got the paddle steamer monopolies and suddenly local wasn't good enough and the bottom line? Local was stamped out. It has happened time and time again and we just don't learn. Monopolies get rid of the competition, but the competition is local and can provide you with what you need....and they are sustainable if you get rid of the monopoly competition! We are going to have to have a long hard think and we are going to have to think about looking after ourselves and we might even have to think about keeping it simple.
