'Help' in sand saves missing tourist

'Help' in sand saves missing tourist : "Searchers and helicopters failed to find any trace of the woman until this morning, when some tracks were found.

Shortly before 1.30pm (CST) today, searchers found the word `help' written in the sand."

On the news this afternoon they said she had scrawled LOST. Oh well, at least she had had the sense to scrawl something which could be seen from the air. That is vital in this country because it's massive and we conduct a lot of searches by air. She had also had the sense to register her travel plans so that the searchers had an idea of what she was doing. The thing which impressed me on the news was how organised the search teams were, how much they were prepared to find this French tourist and how good they were at guessing intelligently where she was likely to be...so yes, all has gone well because, in the end, it was a team effort from us and the tourist who just didn't know how big our country can be and how much it looks the same. I daresay we'll discover how she became lost and that will further help us with others who get lost here. It happens easily...and it is serious so tourists do need survival skills.
