Onus on users to "unfilter" websites

Onus on users to unfilter websites : "'Australian families want more (internet protection) and deserve more than they are currently getting, and this is a real test for the Rudd Government,' he said."

I don't know if it'll be hard for the government. It will be a test of our technical support. Let's look upon it as a challenge! I work in a filtered work environment. It doesn't appear to slow the network and Net access down. It does from time to time create a hiccoughs with access to legitimate website but that is simply a matter of chatting to the techies and weighing the pros and cons of unblocking particular site. In every instance there has been a solution and it means we do not have unwanted material at work and I am happy with that because I found it very offputting before. Time and place people. it's something we talked about, put in place and have always had open conversations about. This undesirable or inappropriateness of the Net was why our home computers have always been in the lounge for all and sundry to participate in and it has been a different way of doing things but for us it has been a social and sociable way of Netting. Headsets block noise when necessary and there has been negotiation and discussions. Now no one is at school or uni, well, laptops appear all over the house! I do not go on the Net to have images foisted in front of me in a haphazard, random way. I have found this has improved over the years and someone has been more mindful as to what gets put in front of my eyes. For me it's negative and I do wonder why everyone is stuck on porn and not because I'm a prude. We have so many porn delivery methods, give us a break! No one wants their child to be confronted with porn and violent stuff either because even if you are supervising it used to pop up with alarming haste and ease. If people want it , let them have it, but let us have a choice. it doesn't make us totalitarian. I don't want cruel images. I don't want to see the bottom end of humanity. If others want to be like that, let them. If they get pleasure from cruel and whatever else I deem to be not for me, then let them access it. Until the material age most societies have taken a moral line on values and the society has dictated and discussed that. Now we have no moral line because it's profit, people. So, I think we can work it out. I think people can have "safe" desktops like I do at work. It takes time, initiative and constant conversations. I don't think it's black and white as we are being given to understand.
