Farmers give Next G thumbs down

Farmers give Next G thumbs down : "“While some farmers are very happy with their Next G service (they thought it much better than CDMA) and would have no problem with CDMA being shut down, too many farmers and rural Australians still have substantive concerns and problems with Next G,” he said."

We've got sheep stations bigger than countries. You can fit 14 and a half France's into Australia. Telecommunications for rural Australia has always been a big problem because you have to have the infrastructure , the network points...the capacity to create and boost the connections. Obviously Next Gen is the future and has some real advantages that would suit rural Australia, bringing them in closer to us and each other. There are some real benefits. It seems to work in some places, but the farmers HAVE to have reliable communication. It's life and death. They are isolated. They have to have ease of access. So Telstra just needs to keep working through the issues and because we are techno savvy these days, we shall work it out...and yes, one of the issues would be "flimsy" city phones. Might look cool in the airport llounge and on the conference table (turned off I hope) but out in the bush..yes, they'd be looking for something durable. Flimsy just doesn't cut it. Many of these phones are sturdier than they appear...it's a consumer confidence issue in some respects. Our farmers have pioneered a lot of technology and it's great they are being included in the loop. It'll be resolved that way.
