Psychiatrists call for specialised unit for Tas adolescents & children

Psychiatrists call for specialised unit for Tas adolescents & children - : "There have been calls for a specialised hospital unit in Tasmania to deal with children and teenagers who have serious mental illnesses."

Oh what a breakthough. We have acknowledged we have adolescents with mental illnesses and that they need specialised care. We have come a long way. Every capital city should have a specialist mental health unit for teenagers because it is the prime time for mental illnesses to become more evident and it is critical to get in early with the strategies and the treatments. Tasmania is a good place to start but let this unroll across Australia because parents, teachers, other health workers all need a central resource and a central information point to help address some of the critical issues related to adolescent mental health. Parents need reassuring and they are the prime target for support and backbone in this mental health approach because schools and medical have many other things to address . I just think it is fantastic.
