Drought leads to bush suicides : "Most of the suicides were among middle-aged male farmers, but three women also killed themselves, the Herald Sun reported."
At least they are reporting it. Before they weren't and then we found out our farmers and families had been hitting the wall and we didn't know and we couldn't help. It's important to make bush-city connections. Roll out the technology and let's get some connectivity going so people are not isolated. You cannot stop people from committing suicide, but you have a good chance of not letting them get into that frame of mind if you can identify the issues and help supply work arounds. For some it's about moral support. For others it's about letting them say what they need because farmers are notorious for their fix it themselves I won't bother anyone mentality. We need chat lines, supplies lists..anything which will help. We have the means...it's awful for people to have to die because we are trying to get through this drought.
