Scientists jump-start brain

Scientists jump-start brain : "Now he can chew, swallow and carry out movements such as brushing his hair and drinking from a cup, say the US neuroscientists who carried out the procedure, known as deep brain stimulation."

Even though stimulating the brain by inserting electrodes deep within it might seem a bit ghoulish, it brings great hope for those suffering from severe brain trauma. It brings hope for their families. We are learning more and more about the brain and in some respects it doesn't sit well with us, but for individuals it is going to mean so much. The more we know, the better we shall become in restoring brain health, because it is one of those areas in which is extremely tricky to pioneer treatments. Those suffering severe brain trauma are totally dependent and so if they can be brought to a state of consciousness where they can participate in their treatments and recovery , it has to be a good thing.
