AdelaideNow... 250 children homeless in SA: "He said a housing summit would be held next month involving developers, community groups and councils."
No one should be homeless in Adelaide and no child should be going to school from a car. I know, I know we have some people who are drug dependent and it means their lives have hit the wall. It will achieve nothing if we ignore them and especially their children. As for living in a caravan, which is disapproved of in this article, well, I have friends who brought up 2 children in their high school years in a long term caravan park. The freewheeling, relaxed lifestyle helped repair the wounds of their respective broken marriages as they saved for a home of their own. The kids were well cared for and had a lovely life. The two adults used their network to gain the support they needed at times but they also had a good chance to think about what they wanted without the pressures of money, mortgages and the financial trappings of a permanent home. They moved out into a beautiful place and completely renovated it and their children have since married and have families of their own. The housing summit is both essential and desirable at this point in time.
