AdelaideNow... $720m owed by students: "Nationally, students and graduates owed a total of $12.9 billion in 2005-06.
This was up from $3.9 billion a decade earlier."
We have to do something about tertiary education. Brains have a right o be educated and it is in our interests to train competent and capable students at the tertiary level. Clearly they cannot afford it. It is a huge amount. Some of them are working which then interferes with their studies and that, in turn, impacts on what universities can achieve. The whole lot needs to be looked at so that it works and so we have a successful and dynamic tertiary education system. It's horrendous that young people have this much debt, but it is also untenable that this much is owing.
