Gloves off in presidential debate : "Mr Sarkozy scored points for keeping his cool while Ms Royal, who wants to become France's first woman president, won kudos for her combativeness in the face-off ahead of Sunday's vote."
Two hours and forty minutes of tough debate. That is really worth having before an election. Sunday is the big day for the presidiential election in France and it really is incredible that this kind of intensive debate can attract an audience in France of over 20 million. It's a sad state of affairs when I have to say it is such a pleasure to see someone like Ségolène Royal able to be a worthy candidate in La Présidentielle. I didn't like hearing M. Sarkozy telling her what a competent opponent she was, that she shouldn't express herself with passion and conviction. It's that kind of stuff women do not need and should not have to put up with. It should be normal to see a woman in that level of political debate and she is remarkable that she has come this far and is credible. I hate hearing myself say that . We should not have to hear men patting women on the head for being such good opponents and I should not have to be pleased there is a woman in France who can hold her own. I wish I could have seen the whole debate. I have watched these Présidentielles before...this one has been truly interesting and gratifying!!
