Sydney's dim view of Earth Hour

Sydney's dim view of Earth Hour : "Only about 65,000 households and 2000 businesses committed to turning off their lights between 7.30pm (AEST) and 8.30pm (AEST) for Earth Hour, part of an effort to cut the city's greenhouse gas emissions by five per cent in the next 12 months."

Dim view? I don't think so. The Coca-Cola sign went off and that's been shining since 1974. 5% of energy was saved which is better than nothing. Hotels provided candles and I can attest myself that candle light was really soothing. ( I did an Adelaide sympathy lights out). We are too used to all our gadgets and lights. It takes a while to drip through the changes to our lifestyles because we are all about us. Changing the head set takes time. It sounds like it got off to a good start and should happen again. It's the snowball effect which is critical in a thing like this and we should not berate people for being human. We have been trained to be energy dependant and reliant. We now have to train ourselves to make sounder choices. One hour was no big deal, but some people wouldn't have been able to get their heads around it?! Me, turn off the lights for one hour??? Then I won't be able to .... It's all good because it's had an impact on a big city. Well done, I say.
