Mayors' Projects for New Year

AdelaideNow... Mayors' planned projects for New Year:

"A youth centre, multi-storey car park, student accommodation and major road upgrades are just some of the initiatives metropolitan Adelaide's mayors have planned for the new year."

When you read this article , you get some sense that the mayors actually are in touch with their communities. We do need facilities which reflect the changing needs of our young people and we do badly need car park facilities in places which are popular. Sometimes we need to think and consult. We have come up to a time of change in Adelaide and as you drive around you get the idea that much of the change is good. Hutt Street has never looked better. Around town and in some of the suburbs we have developed signs from just letters...so they have the look of sculptures as well as signs and they do not impinge on the view. Like the one on the corner of the Flinders University Oval. The Flinders colours blend in with the natural colours in the area so the sign tends to blend as well.

We badly need accommodation. Not just for students. For families, for singles, for couples. We need to look at being more flexible with accommodation so that there is a greater variety with a range of price tags. We have hit a bit of an impasse on that and it's not good enough. It means we haven't sat down to think, plant and activate. It means we need to go to one of our nice hotels, let them bring the food and the drink and sit in a friendly environment with the key players and look at how we can manage roofs over heads.
