Cup truly international with Japan's win

Cup truly international with Japan's win :

"The Melbourne Cup became a truly international event when Japan's Delta Blues scored an historic win over stablemate Pop Rock, leaving the best stayers from Europe and Australia in their wake."

We truly are a nation that stops for a horse race. Everyone wanted to know who had run and even those who studiously avoided the ignominy of living in a place that focusses on a horse race were still part of the event because they were the ones not participating! We accommodate all types on Melbourne Cup Day and it's a day of good spirits and anticipation. The kids get excited, people get into the sweeps and lunches are plentiful and beautiful. We had a nice one at work and some of the hats were great. It's nice to know the cup winners will celebrate the Austrlain cup with in good Australian style. It was a good day and a happy one. Some watched the race on TV, others listened on their MP3 players and some would have been lucky enough to really be there. I wish it were a national day because the food and hospitality industry go all out to bring us gastronomic events worthy of us as a nation. It would be great to be out there in the thick of it.
