Spida weaves into Sydney :
"While there have been questions over how 'Spida' will fit into the Swans' renowned team-first culture - he has a reputation for outspoken and random behaviour - the ruckman said he was ready to lower his profile."
I like Spida. He is a really decent bloke who can deal with all sorts of things and who always has an interesting perspective. 4 years with Hawthorn and 10 years with St. Kilda and maybe 2 or 3 years with the Swans, which was his wish. His team is the football public and that may be difficult for others to understand. I can like football because of guys like Spida. He has made me knowledgeable, he has helped me to understand what all the fuss is about and he has made me think about why Australians are so in love with this game. He has a good brain, he has a fantastic sense of humour and he has a great commitment to his football public. Yes, he is an individual and maybe others need to understand that it is his skills level and his personality which make people love the sport which he loves so much. It is his life. They are making him sound like an old crock. That he is not. He is in a transition phase now and maybe he will come to understand that he has only done half the job. The next phase is to get the young ones as enthusiastic and cool about it all as he is. He needs a good mentor, both to help him achieve his goals but also to ensure a guy like him isn't lost to the game because he thinks he is too old. There is a big future ahead of him I am sure.
