SA gamblers lose record amount on pokies.

SA gamblers lose record amount on pokies. :

"South Australian gamblers also lost a record amount of money - a total of $751 million, or nearly $2 million a day."

Nick Xenophon has been the only politician to constantly pursue the misery of the pokies. My friend at uni years ago had a father who was addicted to the pokies and his stories of how their family lived and then how his Mum divorced his Dad who died a bit later were stories which used to bring tears to my eyes. When I visited the family you could see they were still recovering from abject poverty and I guess we all rallied a bit, without being too obvious to support them into their new launch into life. The pokies can be used sensibly. I have used them but I find them boring so I leave pretty quickly once my money is gone. I think I have only used them about 3 times, but you see people with their eyes glazed just tipping money into them. 10% of the populations is addicts. In our Nanny society we force people to obey speed limits, restrict alcohol intake whilst driving, wear seatbelts in cars not smoke here their and everywhere, so our Nanny society should've been out in full force protecting us from the pokies and Mr.Xenophon should not be left to be the lone voice in the wilderness. In the social groups I have been in we have started to pick venues without or well hidden pokies because we are fed up with the noise and the wall of constant jumping colour. So...all that money down the drain for people and their families. Who are the winners here???
