Amazon.fr : J'avais 12 ans, j'ai pris mon vélo et je suis parti à l'école...: Livres: Sabine Dardenne,Marie-Thérèse Cuny:

"28 mai 1996. Sabine Dardenne, 12 ans, est enlevée par
Marc Dutroux sur le chemin de l'école. Ce monstre a déjà
tué quatre enfants. Ce que va subir Sabine Dardenne est effroyable."

I read this the week before last and it's a tribute to its author that I actually read it in one hit. She had been kept as a prisoner by the infamous pedophile and serial killer, Marc Dutroux for 80 days and she came out of it alive. At 12,when she was captured, she shows a remarkable amount of courage and such touching innocence, and it was sad she was making herself feel guilty because she asked and asked for a friend and Dutroux kidnapped another girl who was also brought into these hideous circumstances. At 12 she knew she had to survive and she thought of a friend. It was the capturing of the friend which eventually led the police to Dutroux and his wife. She articulates her story well and if it is part of her healing then she deserves it. It is awful that she was made to feel guilty because she actually lived. Four other girls didn't. It was ground shattering news for quite a while in Belgium and I kept up with it on the French news. I consider myself fortunate I was able to get a copy and read it because it does let people know how the little girls feel and they are so rarely heard. Sabine has made their plight public in this book and given us a great deal to think about.
