Parties trade barbs over Indigenous abuse.

Parties trade barbs over Indigenous abuse. :

"'No member of the Opposition has ever or would ever say something like that. That implication ought to be withdrawn,' she said.

'It's a disgrace.'"

We are not resolving the issues of domestic violence, child abuse and violence in our communities. Our justice system and our way of doing things isn't working either. Our children are also vulnerable. I find it very difficult to take that we would single out aboriginal communities and treat them in such and insensitive manner. I very much doubt that we or they condone violence and child abuse. I don't think our society condones these things sand I do not think their tribal communities condone them. Some of the issues and problems they face have been brought about by us moving in with our habits and way of doing things and taking over their land. We haven't got a good track record in terms of how we have lived with the culture which was on this land long before us. It grieves me that , as a so called civilised society, we cannot accept and acknowledge many people have been working solidly on these issues for years in both cultures. It grieves me we cannot find a way of talking to each other and using the best of both systems to stem what is a problem for all Australians. There is nothing politically correct about asking ourselves whether we are dealing with all fo this in a civilised and thoughtful manner. Some of us are finding this deeply disturbing...because people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
